The Jones Local School Council (LSC) approved a motion Tuesday evening to formalize a contract with Soldier Field for the Homecoming dance.
The council voted 8-2 during a special meeting to approve a contract with Soldier Field up to $140,000. Eight out of 15 members needed to vote yes in order to approve the contract. Three members abstained and two were absent.
The vote came after the LSC split 6-6 during a special meeting on Sept. 30 to approve the contract.
Around 1,200 tickets have been sold, LSC staff representative Troy Hilbrands said. Ticket prices will remain $60 for students. Students uncomfortable with the price will be able to refund their tickets, Principal Kerry Dolan said during the meeting.
Juniors and seniors will be able to purchase guest tickets during their lunch period on Wednesday, while freshmen and sophomores will be able to on Thursday. Forty tickets will be allocated to each grade level per lunch period, Dolan said in an email sent out to Jones families and staff following the meeting. Guest tickets will be $75.
All students that requested aid to pay for Homecoming will have their ticket covered, Dolan said. Students that didn’t complete the request form must email Dolan by the end of the day Thursday to receive assistance.
The capacity for Soldier Field is 1,800 students, Dolan said. Remaining tickets will be sold Friday until the capacity is reached.
Students and parents raised concerns during public participation about Homecoming planning and why the contract had not been approved a week before the deadline. LSC Chair Sam Finkelstein said the council will work toward improving the planning process to avoid a similar situation in the future.
Homecoming will take place on Oct. 17. The next LSC regular meeting will be held on Oct. 14 in the library.
