Many students at Jones know that there is no boys’ or co-ed football team. While the school has a girls’ flag football team, it lacks other options for others at Jones who want an opportunity to play football. The new flag football club may offer a solution to this problem.
Lots of people in the school like football and wish for a way to play on a team, and a flag football club is the perfect way to achieve that. Some students also want a competitive area to play football without the pressure of playing on a school team. As a response to this, juniors Isaac Infante and Joaquin Arciniega collaborated to create the flag football club. The club is for students who desire to play football after school with their friends in a space designed to provide that.
“You know, football is a very big game and we think a school like Jones with so many students would benefit from a football club,” said Infante. The members of the club range from freshmen to juniors and has allowed its members to meet new people and create new friendships with other students who are members. During the club fair, Infante and Arciniega advertised the new club and talked very highly about what the club would be about.
The praise of the club and the promise of receiving candy upon joining caused many students to join as fast as possible. The Google Classroom is so full that any new members who are interested in joining will have to reach out to Infante personally to join.
Flag football had its first club meeting on September 24, 2025. During this meeting, they discussed the structure of the game schedule and what rules that the games would be played by. The club members constructed their rosters and discussed the minimum number of players required to compete in a game. The maximum number of players allowed on a team is eight to ten, and at least six players are required to compete in a game.
The club is made up of many students who are excited to play football and play at a high level against their peers.
Infante is a big fan of football and plays fantasy football. He and Arciniega decided to form the flag football club to express their love for the game with like-minded people.
“So basically we had to find a sponsor, so I hit up multiple teachers to try to get us a sponsor for our club and thankfully we got one,” said Infante.
Arciniega was able to reach out to Mr. Teich, and he agreed to sponsor the club. Mr. Teich is a gym teacher and is known for being funny and personable with students in his classes. Infante and Arciniega came up with the idea during an AP Seminar class after a conversation with a member of the girls’ flag football team. They questioned the lack of a boys’ team, and from there, they decided to create the club.
Nathan Bravo Soto ‘27 is the media manager of the Instagram account for the flag football club. Soto is in charge of posting on the club’s Instagram account and releasing club updates on the internet. Soto was given the role and explained how Infante and Arciniega approached him to offer the job.
“They asked me if I would join, and I said yes, and then they asked me to be the social media manager, and I also said yes to that,” said Soto.
The flag football club is a space for people who enjoy the game of football to come together and play a game that they love and compete with or against their friends while making new ones in the process.
