On Feb. 10th, the Boys swim team took a big win home with the CPL City Championships. Swimmers expressed excitement about the win and expectations of State Playoffs this weekend.

Star swimmer Rayburn Kohl ‘25 who’s been a part of the team for 3 years speaks on winning cities and with the hope of doing the same for state as he is making and breaking records along the way.

“We started off a little shaky beginning the season but we brought everything together and we’re looking really good going into state,” said Kohl.

With all the hard work the team has been putting in and outside the pool, the team has been supporting one another along the way.

“We were all just supporting each other, cheering each other on and teamwork is what really brought us to the championship,” said Kohl.

Rayburn shares thoughts about the impact he has made on the team within the 3 years of commitment to swimming.

“I’m just happy I can support the team in any way I can, it doesn’t matter if it’s big or small. I’m just happy to be on the team,” said Kohl.

Following the big win with cities, state is coming up this weekend and two swimmers are getting sent to state.

“We are sending two relays to state,” said Kohl.

State is taking place this weekend and Rayburn has hopes of bringing a medal home.

“I want to try to bring home some silverware for Jones. It’s been a while since any CPS swimmer has brought home any metals from state so it’ll be good to bring home some metals for Jones,” said Kohl.

With the season slowly coming to an end there is still great energy outside the pool.

“I’m just really proud of the whole team. We’ve grown so much as a team. Everyone’s gotten really close and it’s just great to see the team that we’ve become over these past few years,” said Kohl.

Swimmer Tommy Chen ‘25 expresses the feelings in the air during City Championships.

“I definitely enjoyed it. I say our team has always been in a gradual upward motion. We’ve always been improving, always grinding in the pool. I think this year was the year we took it home,” said Chen.

Motivation and improvement is the most important to the team currently.

“It’s definitely self improvement. I feel like everyone has to swim their own events. They focus on themselves, and which we have to represent Jones, our families, it’s very important. We love the sport,” said Chen.

Ending the season with a big win and positive vibes within the team is what really matters.

“End off the season with a good belt, we’re ranked top 10 a few events so it’s been pretty good,” said Chen.
