The Jones boys basketball team lost their first home game which they played against Payton on December 1st, 2023. Both the JV and Varsity boys teams faced off against Payton. Unfortunately for the eagles, both the teams lost. This has caused all students to wonder how the Jones boys basketball team will recover this season. Although their first home game wasn’t a success there were a striking amount of people present at the game in support of the Jones team.

Player of the Jones Varsity boys basketball team, Stone Cull ‘25, conveys gratitude towards principal Dolan for the publicity she brought to the game.

“We had a great turnout, thanks to parent volunteers, and principal Dolan for sending out details to all of our students. I hope the game was exciting for everyone who came” said Cull.

Audience member Logan Walker ‘25 has decided to take a positive outlook regarding the outcome of the game.

“While the team lost, I think that their team chemistry and connection grew along with the support of the school,” said Walker.

Similarly to Walker, Jacob Hernandez ‘25 describes the game as intriguing due to the unpredictability of its outcome.

“The game started off a little bit slow for Jones at the start, however, we really started to pick up momentum during the second half which brought the game back a bit,” said Hernandez.

Although the team did not succeed in winning the game, there was a surge in school spirit due to the email sent by principal Dolan as a way to encourage the attendance of Jones students at the game.

“I think a lot of people went, definitely more than I was expecting, the entire left side of our stand was crowded and it was hard to find seats there,” said Hernandez.

Moving forward, the team has started to turn the season around and is continuing to improve.

“Overall, we’ve started the season facing a lot of tough competition, but we hope to continue to succeed in the conference after our great win at Marshall on December 8th,” said Cull.
