Although school is out for CPS on June 13, Jones offers a myriad of activities for bored Eagles over the summer, ranging from extra classes to fun student-led events and programs.
ACADEMICS
Jones students have the opportunity to participate in eleven classes over the summer, three of which (Exploring CompSci, Civics, and Math 3) are credit-bearing.
Although the other six do not affect student’s GPA, they still provide a valuable opportunity for students to improve their English (College Essay Workshop, Creative Writing Workshop, Legal Eagles), their Math (3A to Precalc Mastery Class), their science (AP Chemistry Bootcamp), or even their Social Studies knowledge (AP Human Geography Bootcamp).
The final, and arguably most unique, class Jones students have the opportunity to take over the summer is a Crash Course in Cooking class taught by our very own principal Ms. Dolan.
“I’ve always loved cooking and the culinary arts,” said Dolan. “My favorite class I’ve ever taught was an online cooking class over Zoom during lockdown. I’m excited to get that opportunity again.”
ATHLETICS
Jones students have the opportunity to expand on their physical and athletic skills along with their academics. A Strength and Conditioning course, as well as a Hitting Your Personal Fitness Goals for more advanced athletes, is offered for students looking to get back in the gym over the summer.
For Jones students looking to represent their Eagles in a sport next year, getting some work in over the summer is crucial. That’s why, starting in late July and going all the way through the start of the school year, almost every Jones fall sport, ranging from cheerleading to soccer to even flag football, is hosting tryouts, conditioning sessions, and bootcamps for the upcoming season. “It’s super important to show up to show up to summer tryouts and workouts to show the coaches that you care about the program and the sport- and it increases your chances of getting in,” said Jack Condne ‘26.
PROGRAMS
There are also several programs Jones students have the opportunity to participate in as well. From July 14th to July 31st, students will have the opportunity to participate in Freshman Connections, a fun week-long program where students help acclimate the incoming freshmen at Jones.
“It was honestly one of the best experiences I had all year,” said Parker Paduck ‘26. “I got to play games, choreograph dances and songs, and just overall have a great time helping the freshmen get more used to the school environment.”
