After spending three years with the school, Assistant Principal Yvette Torres departed from Jones on Friday, February 9th. 

Her resignation follows the arrival of newly hired principal Kerry Dolan as well as other administrative staff. She heads to Greeley Elementary to continue growing as a leader.

“The decision wasn’t easy, but I am thinking of my future career, and having experience in elementary school is crucial in order to make myself a viable candidate for future principalship positions,” said Torres. 

The news of Torres’ departure came as a disappointing surprise to students. 

“I am sad to see that she’s leaving. She has done a lot of work here, and I thought she was going to stick around and keep influencing our school community,” said Jones student Michael Lane ‘25. 

Lane holds a special appreciation for Torres’ friendly demeanor that fostered connections between students and administrators. 

“I think she brought such a positive attitude. She always said hi to me in the morning and asked how I was doing. It made me feel welcomed, safe, and connected to my community,” said Lane.

Other students expressed a similar gratitude towards Torres. 

“Ms. Torres was a great addition to the school community. I always knew I could come into her office if I ever needed help,” said student Megan Rivera ‘25. 

Torres suspects she will miss Jones equally as much as its students will miss her. 

“I will miss all of Jones. I was fortunate enough to foster some great relationships with staff and faculty. I will also miss the many students who always knew I had my door open and came to just chat. Those moments were amazing,” said Torres.

Despite a positive experience overall, Torres faced challenges in her final months at Jones. A changing administration left her with difficult but eye-opening responsibilities. 

“I know many may not realize but having to run the school solo for about two months before Principal Dolan was selected and the other APs went on their new journey was a challenge that allowed me to realize my potential as a School Leader,” said Torres.

Students share Torres’ vision for herself as an educational leader.

“I definitely can see Ms. Torres as a future principal. Her leadership and connection to students is what I imagine in a principal,” said Rivera. 

Although students are sad to see Jones lose such a great asset, they harbor no negative emotions toward Torres. 

“I honestly wish Ms. Torres the best in her new job. I’ve known her a long time and know she is capable of great things. I wish that in her next school community, she is happy in her workplace and can do great things,” said Lane. 

Torres holds similar well-wishes for the Jones community as she embarks on her next journey.  

“I hope that Jones continues to strive to be better,” said Torres. “To be open to differences and realize that Jones is only a dot on the map, and the whole world is out there for all to learn from.”
