Dear women in America,
I have been wondering what could bring us together in a country where political polarization remains so strong. Then I realized we already had something that would connect us no matter what: Girlhood. We all love waking up with each other at a sleepover and recapping the night. We know how much more fun getting ready is than the actual event. We all have talked about the same thing over and over again to our friends who listen no matter what.
We also know the pain of being women. We know the disgust of being catcalled and having people stare us down. The pain of having something happen to you but being afraid to say something because people will assume you put yourself in a position for something to happen.
But the beauty of girlhood is that all of these painful and joyful moments connect us. Crying in the bathroom can create a beautiful conversation. Screaming at your favorite concert can create picture-perfect memories. With everything going on in the world, it may seem like women are being pit against each other and the rest of the country. However, even with different values and goals, we must remember that together we are stronger than we are apart.
For better or for worse,
